Peterborough County OPP – Driver Facing Charges After Fleeing Police

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on the North Monaghan Parkway at approximately 1:15 p.m. yesterday afternoon (September 16, 2020).

The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed but officers did not pursue due to concerns for public safety. Officers were able to obtain the vehicle’s licence plate and attended the registered owner’s residence. The vehicle was located and attempted to flee officers again by repeatedly ramming a police cruiser. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was arrested at a nearby residence.

A 17 year old youth of Peterborough, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Flight from peace officer

· Dangerous operation

· Assault a peace officer with a weapon

· Speeding

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 9, 2020.
