Update – Peterborough County OPP – Trent Lakes Man Facing Charges in Relation to Death Investigation

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT LAKES, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to a report of a missing male on March 7, 2020 at approximately 5:15pm.

The male was last seen being towed behind a snowmobile while on a toboggan on Bass Lake when he fell through the ice. The Trent Lakes Fire Depart ment and OPP Aviation Services attended but were unable to locate the male.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) attended the scene to assist with the search.

This incident remains under investigation.

Further updates will be made when more information becomes available.

The Peterborough County OPP is advising those using snowmobiles and ATV’s to avoid driving on lakes and rivers. If it can’t be avoided, check ice conditions beforehand, wear a floater suit and carry ice picks and make sure they are accessible. No ice is safe ice.

-UPDATE #1-
On March 8, 2020 at approximately 11:45am, the deceased male was located by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU). The deceased has been identified as Tyler CHRISTINE-BOURGEOIS (age 20) of Azilda, Ontario.

The deceased will be transported to The Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit at the Forensic Services and Coroners Complex in Toront o for a post mortem examination.

William ROBSON (age 45) Of Trent Lakes, Ontario has been charged with the following offences in relation to this death investigation:

Dangerous operation cause death

Operation while impaired-alcohol cause death

Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) cause death

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 29, 2020.
