Quinte West OPP – Stolen Car Recovered – Four People Arrested

Officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered a stolen car and arrested several young people.

Officers were called to the service centre on Highway-401 westbound, shortly after 6:30 p.m. on August 18, 2020. Four people had fled on foot prior to the officers’ arrival. OPP members arrested two individuals at the service centre. Two others were arrested on Carman Road, north of Highway-401. The car had been reported as stolen in the City of Kingston.

Jhonier RODRIGUEZ, age 22 of Ancaster has been charged wit h:
Dangerous operation – Criminal Code (CC) sec. 320.12(1)
Operation while prohibited – CC sec. 320.18(1)(a)
Flight from peace officer – CC sec. 320.17
Possession of property obtained by crime – CC sec. 354(1)(a)
Drive a motor vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock – Highway Traffic Act sec. 287/08 11
The accused was held for bail hearing before the Ontario of Justice in Belleville on August 19, 2020.

Kandice Watson MACKENZIE, age 19 of Hamilton is charged with:
Unauthorized possession of a weapon – CC sec. 91(2)
Possession of property obtained by crime – CC sec. 354(1)(a)
Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) sec. 4(1)
Possession of a Schedule 3 substance – CDSA sec. 4(1)
The accused was held for bail hearing before the Ontario of Justice in Belleville on August 19, 2020.

YOUSIF GHAWI, age 18 of Hamilton and a 17 year old male, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under CC section 354(1)(a). Both of these accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on October 1, 2020.
