Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged another two motor vehicle operators with impaired driving.
(MUNCIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) At approximately 3:00 am on Saturday July 11, 2020, an officer travelling eastbound on Highway 401 just past the highway off ramp to Brighton, observed a silver Chevrolet four door hatchback stopped on the north side of the highway along the centre median. The officer stopped and found the vehicle had struck the median with enough force resulting in severe damage to the front end. After a conversation with the uninjured driver, the officer suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening device test was administered and the driver registered a “fail”. The operator was then transported back to the OPP detachment in Brighton for further testing which resulted in the driver registering over three times the legal limit.
Jayme HUTCHINSON (age 49) of Toronto, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Driving while under suspension
(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND TOWNSHIP, ON) On Saturday July 18, 2020, shortly after 9:00 pm, concerned motorists called police regarding a black Nissan pick-up truck that was travelling westbound on Highway 401. The vehicle was described as being unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane and hitting the shoulders. Police located the described vehicle and stopped it west of Lyle Street. Officers found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported back to the OPP detachment in Cobourg for further testing. Ceara CHAPMAN (age 32) of Quinte West, Ontario registered over three times the legal limit and was subsequently charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Both accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded. They were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on scheduled dates in September 2020.
