Northumberland OPP – Two Drivers Charged with Impaired Driving

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two motor vehicle operators with impaired driving.

(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND TWP) On Thursday July 2, 2020, an officer travelling westbound on Northumberland Heights Road near Community Centre Road, was following a white Chevrolet four door sedan that was unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane almost entering a ditch. The vehicle was stopped and the officer found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported back to the detachment for further testing. Chad STEWART (age 42) of Cobourg, Ontario registered over three times the legal limit and was subsequently charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 30, 2020.

 

(MUNCIPALITY OF PORT HOPE) On Saturday July 4, 2020, just after midnight police attended a collision between a black GMC pick-up truck and a red Dodge passenger van that occurred on Highway 401 westbound at County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope. There were no injuries sustained as a result of the collision but the driver of the pick-up truck was found to be operating the vehicle whil e under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. As a result of the investigation Jason LEARD (age 45) of Prince Edward Island, was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 2, 2020.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others travelling our roadways arrive to their destinations safely.
