Cobourg Public Library Offers Virtual Summer Programming

In Community

Cobourg Public Library patrons can access more than just books this summer! In an effort to keep patrons safe while continuing their ability to connect to our community, their summer programming will now be accessible online.

Each year the Library runs the ‘TD Summer Reading Club’ and this year they will be using an innovative and easy to use technology called Beanstack. It will allow patrons of all ages to easily submit reports, track their reading and enter to win some fantastic prizes. The Virtual Summer Reading program launches July 6th on Facebook and the Cobourg Public Library website. Participants are offered daily activities to keep members thinking on their feet.

The Library is also offering ongoing virtual programming in the form of the ‘Virtual Book Club for Book Tasters’ in a Facebook group that is over 40 participants strong, to keep adults reading. Each month has a theme and members participate by reading any book of their choosing associated with that theme, while discussing virtually in the group. Beyond that, there is the Genealogy Gurus Facebook Group that allows patrons to join and learn about different, free tools that will assist them in researching their family genealogy. Run by staff, this program also offers members the opportunity to ask questions directly to a Librarian.

“Our mission has been to work as a team to create an online community hub that’s accessible, fun and engaging while providing outside of the box learning experiences for patrons of all ages.” – Rachel Spence, Community Engagement.
