On Saturday May 23, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service regarding a speeding vessel in the Murray Canal. A 27 year old from Murray Ward was subsequently located and charged with operating a power driven vessel over maximum speed specified under the Canada Shipping Act .
On Sunday May 24, 2020 at approximately 5:00 p.m. officers responded to an impaired boating complaint.
Officers located the boat and operator at the Fraser Park Marina in Trenton. The operator was arrested at the scene.
Leslie WHITNEY, 34 years old, of Trenton has been charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg and
Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on June 18, 2020.
Members of the OPP Marine Program are on the waterways conducting enforcement and educating boaters about staying safe. The public is reminded to ob e y the rules of the waterways, always wear your life jacket, and do not take your boat out if you have consumed any amount of drugs or alcohol.
