Northumberland OPP – Voyeurism and Criminal Harassment Charges

The Major Crime Unit of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in conjunction with the Peterborough Police Service are conducting a joint investigation into the acts of Voyeurism, Criminal Harassment and other sexual related offences that have occurred in the Northumberland and Peterborough areas.

In January 2020, the Peterborough Police Service entered into an investigation where a suspicious male was reportedly observed using electronic equipment to peer through a window of a residence while the occupants were home. The suspect was located in the area of Sherbrooke Street and an arrest was made and charges were laid.

Through further investigation that involved a search warrant where electronic devices were located and seized, the accused was found to be connected to other incidents similar in nature that occurred between 2017 and 2020 in the Peterborough area and incidents that occurred between 2010 and 2018 in the Brighton area.

Daniel Joseph McConnell (age 36) of Clarington, Ontario has been arrested and charged with:

· Voyeurism (24 counts)
· Break and enter (3 counts)
· Possession of child pornography (3 counts)
· Makes, prints, publishes or possess for the purpose of publication and child pornography (3 counts)
· Criminal harassment (13 counts)
· Sexual Assault

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing in January 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough but has since been released.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
