Northumberland OPP – Driver Charged With Impaired By Drug On Highway 401

In Police Blotter

Thursday April 30, 2020 shortly after 9:30 pm members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Port Hope. The black Mitsubishi four door sedan was described as being unable to maintain driving in a marked lane nearly colliding with guardrails and other vehicles.

Officers located the vehicle and stopped it near Burnham Street in Hamilton Township.

41 year-old Atif HUSSAIN of Laval, Quebec was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 17, 2020.

Police continue to rely on members of the public to report suspected impaired drivers. Many of these drivers are caught because of concerned citizens being conscious of irregular or erratic driving behaviours that continue to put other motorists at risk of tragedies caused by impaired drivers on our roadways.

The Northumberland County OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
