Cobourg Council – Councillor Reminds Everyone of Park Restrictions

In City Hall

Cobourg Councillor Emily Chorley took a moment at this week’s council meeting to remind everyone that not all the town’s parks are closed – though they aren’t open on the same terms they used to be.

For the most part, you can use a park for a walk, run or bike ride (if you maintain social distancing), along the paths and on the boardwalk.

You can walk your dog with members of your household, but the dog park on Ontario Street is closed for now (as is the skateboard park). And the Cobourg Conservation Area has been closed under the authority of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Area, with community gardens closed as per provincial mandate.

Fines will apply for those using play structures, swings and slides, and you can’t gather in groups of more than five. And you can no longer organize games or recreational pursuits of any kind on the sports fields.

“You cannot linger in any way, so no picnics or games – and please avoid using park benches,” Chorley continued.

“The marina and campground openings have been delayed at least until May 29, and the boat launch is closed until further notice. The town is working with the Cobourg Youth Club to reschedule the boat lift-in.”

Community Services Division staff continue to work to provide such essential operations as the harbour dredging that will soon begin.

RFPs are being prepared for the electrical upgrading of the marina. The RFPs for the east-pier revitalization (which closed last month) are now being evaluated, but the drafting of an RFP for campground enhancement is on hold.

Victoria Beach Beach Hutt Canteen tenders are almost evaluated, though – given the unsettled season – estimations of viability may need to be reconsidered.
