Cigarette Trip Cut Short for Oshawa Men After Vehicle Hits Guardrail

In Police Blotter

Two Oshawa men escaped injury when their vehicle slammed into a guardrail while exiting Highway 401 in Cobourg on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.

The collision happened shortly before 11 a.m. when the vehicle was exiting the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at the County Road 45 overpass.

The man stated he was attempting to merge with northbound traffic when a Porsche was beside him. When he looked forward the guardrail was in front of him and he ran out of room.

The car and guardrail sustained heavy damage, deploying the airbags in the vehicle, but both men were not injured.

The men said they were on their way north of Cobourg to purchase cigarettes.

Cobourg Police said the driver was charged with careless driving.
