On Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 at approximately 7:46 pm, a member of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle travelling at over 50kph over the posted speed limit on 401 east bound at mile marker 472.
The vehicle then passed the OPP vehicle. The officer conducted a vehicle stop. While stopped with the vehicle, the officer received information that the vehicle had just been involved in a fail to remain collision.
Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcohol. A search incident to the arrest of the driver yielded a prohibited knife.
The accused Tyler POWERS (age 32) of Port Hope has been charged with the following criminal offences:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Carrying concealed weapon for dangerous purpose
Unauthorized possession of weapon
Carry concealed weapon
Furthermore, the accused was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act offences:
· Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed
· Fail to remain
· Careless driving
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 5th, 2020.
