SIU Investigating Fatal Police-involved Shooting In Stone Mills

In Police Blotter

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 48-year-old man yesterday in Stone Mills, northeast of Napanee.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

At approximately 6 p.m. on November 12, 2019, a resident in the area observed a vehicle in a ditch in the area of 5 Lake Road and County Road 14. The man from the vehicle told the resident to go away, and said he had guns.

The resident left the area and reported the incident to 911.

Upon arriving at the scene, an Ontario Provincial Police officer became involved in an interaction with the man.

The officer discharged his firearm multiple times, and the man was struck multiple times.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident. At this time, one subject officer and five witness officers have been designated. The post-mortem is scheduled for tomorrow in Kingston.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
