Halloween Hostess Has Scary Display In Cobourg Benefiting Local Food Bank

In Community

Halloween has always been special for Cobourg resident Brenda Johns.

Each year she told Today’s Northumberland her displays keep getting bigger and bigger.

On Monday, October 28, 2019 Today’s Northumberland got a sneak peak at her display at her house located at 189 Bay Street in Cobourg.

“I have been hitting thrift stores for over a year looking for just the right things to make it look authentic.”

Her elaborate display is called “The Raven – Dead and Breakfast.”

“I made the room key rack the front desk, the sign and the luggage rack.”

In fact, she designed everything.

Using most of her Halloween props from over the years and modifying some it all fits the theme of the evening.

With the help of Vicki Murphy from Ajax and her son Tyler Johns, Andrea Douglas, and her husband Dean who was close by with the saw and drill in hand it was completed.

Johns admits she’s very picky on the details.

This year, she went to Walt Disney World to do some last minute shopping.

“This year is the biggest and because we get less than 40 kids some years, and others less than 30 I thought I would invite people to come and enjoy it and asked for donations to the food bank.”

Johns is the hostess for the guided tour of her display.

“Its meant to be fun and a little scary.”

Using remote control devices for some of the items, depending on the age of the child will determine the scare factor.

Everything is in place and set to go for Thursday, October 31, 2019 starting just after 6 p.m.

The only thing Johns can’t control is the weather, which would mean some of the animatronics would not be working.
