Habitat for Humanity Northumberland Invites Restore Customer’s to “Sign A Stud”

In Charity

For the second year in a row shoppers at the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland ReStore will be invited to contribute directly to the construction of four Habitat homes in Northumberland County – all they have to do is “Sign a Stud.”

From September 23-28, 2019 customers will be given the opportunity to make a donation of their choosing to the Habitat Northumberland homebuilding program and “Sign a Stud” to celebrate their commitment to a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat Northumberland is getting ready to start the renovation and construction of four new affordable homes in Northumberland County.

Habitat Northumberland is currently in the site plan application process for the addition of two units onto its project at 22/24 University Avenue in Cobourg. Habitat is hoping to officially break ground on the construction of this addition in the coming months. Habitat Northumberland is also preparing to relocate two other houses onto new building lots located in Northumberland County. While the plans for both of these projects are still being finalized, Habitat Northumberland is aiming to complete both before the spring of 2020.

In order to get all of the funds in place to build and renovate these four homes, Habitat Northumberland is asking customers in the ReStore to make a donation to contribute to the “Sign a Stud” campaign. All of the funds raised throughout the week will be used to buy the building materials needed to build and renovate these four homes over the next six months. The campaign will end with a special booth at the Cobourg Harvest Festival on Saturday September 28th. This booth is presented in partnership with the downtown Cobourg office of Edward Jones.

“We are excited to be running this campaign again this year,” says Meaghan Macdonald, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity Northumberland. “This has been a tough year as the need for affordable housing seems to be continuously growing. This campaign gives everyone an opportunity to donate what they are able to in order to help address the need for decent and affordable housing in our local community.”

Opportunities to volunteer on the construction and renovation of these four houses will begin this fall and continue over the winter months. For more information on how to get involved in the build or to donate, please contact volunteer@habitatnorthumberland.ca or visit www.habitatnorthumberland.ca.
