Public Encouraged to Participate in Cobourg’s 2020 Public Budget Consultation Meeting

The Town of Cobourg is currently in the process of preparing its 2020 Municipal Operating & Capital Budget and is inviting citizens to participate by attending an open Public Budget Consultation Meeting on Monday, September 16th to share ideas on municipal service priorities and how they would like to see municipal tax dollars spent.

The Open Public Meeting will take place in Victoria Hall, Council Chambers, 55 King Street West at 6 p.m. For those who cannot attend in person the meeting will be streamed live on the Town of Cobourg’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/towncobourg.

How to Provide Feedback Input and submissions for the open Public Budget Consultation Meeting can be provided by:

1. Attending the September 16th, 2019 public meeting in person and making a presentation. РIf you wish to make a presentation please submit your written submission to Municipal Clerk Brent Larmer at 905-372-4301 x 4401 or by emailing blarmer@cobourg.ca. РEach presenter will be allotted 15 minutes. 2. Emailing Budget Chief and Deputy Mayor Suzanne S̩guin at ssequin@cobourg.ca

The input provided will help inform the Town of citizen’s priorities for programs and services for the upcoming budget year.

The process for reviewing the Municipal budget will begin in September when the Management Team reviews their respective department’s preliminary budget numbers. The Budget Committee, consisting of the Chief Administrative Officer, Deputy Mayor and Treasurer then review the proposed budget and invite citizens to provide their feedback before a submission to Council for review. The budget review process will allow for more consultation between departmental budgets with a weeks’ time given to each for discussion.
