Breaking News – Two Transports Collide East of Grafton On Highway 401

In Police Blotter

A collision involving two transports on Highway 401 tied up eastbound traffic around Grafton for most of the afternoon on Monday, August 19, 2019.

Cobourg Fire Department was initially called along with Hamilton Township to the collision that was reported just west of Lyle Street on Highway 401 in the eastbound lanes shortly after 2 p.m.

Once the collision was confirmed it was east of Lyle Street, Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department was sent as it was there area.
Northumberland OPP along with Northumberland County Paramedics also attended the collision.

One driver spoke to Today’s Northumberland stated he was just coming onto the eastbound lanes at Lyle Street carrying a full trailer of plastic bottled water.

The driver said he had his four-way flashers on until he got up to speed on the highway when another transport slammed into the back.

The cab of the one trailer was heavily damaged and oil from the engine spilled across two lanes of the highway.

The two lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear the highway of debris and oil.

One driver was treated for a minor injury, the other driver wasn’t injured.

No word on charges.
