Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three impaired drivers over the past weekend.
On Saturday July 20, 2019 just after 3:00 pm police attended a seasonal residence on Merrill Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township after receiving reports of a black pick-truck that collided with the cottage. The male driver left the area but was soon located not far from the collison scene at his residence and was found to have been consuming alcohol. Upon arresting the male he refused to comply with directions given by police, then became actively resistant and aggressive towards officers. A physical confrontation ensued which resulted in an officer being assaulted.
Michael Colin ROGERS (age 50) of Roseneath, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation While Impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Assault Peace Officer
· Dangerous Operation
· Resist Peace Officer
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 28, 2019.
Minor damage to the cottage was sustained as a result of the collision.
Just after 4:30 am on Sunday July 21, 2019 officers responded to a single vehicle rollover on Rice Lake Scenic Drive in Hamilton Township. The male driver was uninjured but found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Harley CLOHECY (age 28) of Hamilton Township was arrested and charged with:
· Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation While Impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 14, 2019.
Later that same day at approximately 1:30 pm officers stopped a beige colored SUV on Bridge Street West in the town of Campbellford to investigate a Highway Traffic Act offence. Upon speaking with the driver, an odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected.
Garry Cordelle GALL (age 61) of Trent Hills, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation While Impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation While Prohibited
He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 14, 2019.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility. Driving impaired, whether by alcohol or drug, puts everyone at risk
