From Monday, July 8, 2019 to Sunday, July 14, 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 236 occurrences including:
9 motor vehicle Collisions, 11 theft reports, 4 alarm calls, 3 mental health calls, 2 break and enter, 5 drug-related, 4 fraud, 5 domestics.
Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:
July 8:
A woman was reported missing from a shelter in Cobourg. Police initiated a missing person investigation. Police later learned that the female had called the shelter and advised staff that she would return at 10 am that day. No further involvement by police.
Police received a call to a shelter in Cobourg regarding an unwanted person. Upon arrival police removed a woman from the shelter without incident and she was transported to the Northumberland Hills Hospital at her request.
July 9:
Police attended the Division St. upon a report of youths attempting to enter a vehicle. Police attended and check the area but did not observe the suspects. Police determined that no entry had obtained. The suspects were deemed gone on arrival.
Police observed a Blue Chevrolet Cruze License that had been previously deemed unsafe travelling Northbound on Division Street. Police conducted a traffic stop and as a result a woman was charged with operating an unsafe vehicle.
July 10:
Police attended an address in the east-end of Cobourg when a landlord reported that he had third party information that there were five people at his residence including tenant. Upon arrival police observed a woman cleaning up the backyard and no one in the residence. Police spoke with the landlord by phone and advised him that his claim was unfounded.
July 11:
Police were advised of someone pitching a tent on the west beach and lighting bon fires. The man was located and identified and had since packed up his tent and advised that he would utilize the warming center at Cobourg Police Station.
Police received a call regarding an unwanted person at an address central Cobourg. Upon arrival the complainant advised that they were renting a room to a man that was intoxicated and being disruptive. Police learned that the man had left and advised the complainant to call police if he returned.
July 12:
Police received a call to attend an address in south-end of Cobourg regarding a neighbour dispute. Police spoke with the complainant who advised that her neighbour was going to tear her fence down with an excavator in the morning. Police spoke with the neighbour who advised that it was a miss communication stating that he only needed to temporarily remove a panel to get the excavator into his back yard.
July 13:
Police received a call regarding a disturbing the peace complaint. Upon arrival police spoke with the tenants at the unit who advised that they were celebrating a birthday and invited a friend over who had been drinking. He became irate and an altercation started. All people had been drinking and no one was wishing to lay charges. As parties were advised of there right, the friend was cautioned and trespassed from the address.
Police received a call to a local bank regarding a woman refusing to leave the bank machine area. Upon arrival police located the woman who was spoken to and cautioned regarding pan handling near a bank machine. The woman left without incident.
July 14:
While on patrol police observed a fisherman netting a salmon out of the Cobourg boat harbour. The fisherman was charged with angling using anything other than an artificial lure under the Ontario Fishery Regulations.
The Cobourg Police are reminding citizen’s to lock there vehicle’s and their homes at all times to help deter property crimes.
The Cobourg Police are advising the public that driving under the influent of alcohol and or drugs will change your life if arrested. No Drugs, No Alcohol, No Victims (MADD Canada).
July 13
While in the east-end of Cobourg on July 13, at approximately 3:00 pm, the Cobourg Police Service identified a man from two theft incidents where video was captured but no arrests were made. The man was placed under arrest without incident.
As a result of the investigation, 23 year-old Adam Kataila of Cobourg was arrested and charged with two counts of Theft Under $5000.00 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00.
Kataila was released from custody on an Appearance Notice with a future court date.
July 14
Cobourg police received a call on July 14, 2019 to attend Division Street as a man was observed breaking a door window to a business. The man in question was seen by police running southbound where he was later stopped and arrested.
As a result of the police investigation Trevor McVety 45 years of age from Cobourg was charged with mischief under $5000 contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Trevor McVety was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date.
