Colborne Hosts Music In The Square Thursdays

A new Music In The Square series has begun in Colborne with free evenings of music in Victoria Square through Aug. 22.

Community partnerships have made possible an amazing line-up of talent Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (with a new addition this year – local opening acts who perform from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Just fetch your favourite lawn chair, try your luck at the 50-50 draw and enjoy.

On July 11, the Kinfolk bring a pleasing mix of classical and new country, brought to you by CIBC, Sydney Clair Antiques, Truss-Worthy Construction, Foodland Cam Tran and Hasiuk Trailers.

The popular local band Cedarail take a break from their It’s All About The Music show on Northumberland 89.7 for a live performance of their own on July 18 – classic county music with a touch of the ’60s – with sponsorship from Northumberland Veterinary Services.

The Offbeats drop in July 25 to get your toes tapping to classic R&B and soul, sponsored by Home Hardware and the Colborne and District Lions Club.

The award-winning Sweetgrass band performs traditional bluegrass Aug. 1, with their own spin on country and pop. The concert is brought to you by the Royal Canadian Legion, Century Electric, Fidelity Engineering, Royal Heritage Realty and Carter Thompson Law.

Making their first appearance, Coup de Ville popular classical rock (with a little country on the side Aug. 8. Sponsors for the evening are Rutherflo Transportation, Tim Hortons, Masonic Lodge, Tip Top Realty and Vito’s Pizza.

With two Colborne boys at the helm, Little Lake offers a varied program from country to pop on Aug. 15, sponsored by Dekeyser Excavating, All Paws Inn, Prentice Towing, Clarke Concrete, Heath Vintage and the Rotary Club of Colborne.

The series moves indoors for its Aug. 22 grand finale, with Freddy Vette and his Rhinestone Plowboys headlining a show at the Keeler Centre, 80 Division St. Come by at 5 p.m. for a pay-as-you-go barbecue provided by Black Dress Catering, followed by a two-hour show that begins at 6:30 p.m.

Back by popular demand (and featuring Colborne’s own Al Briscoe), it’s an evening of classic country at its bet. Sponsors for the big wind-up event are Encore Tents, Robby’s Excavating, the Cramahe Fire Department, Newman, Oliver and McCarten, and Kim and Sam Realty.
