In Police Blotter

On Saturday June 8, 2019 just before 10:00 pm members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the area of County Road 45 south of Cap Wilson Road after receiving reports of a black Hyundai sedan travelling northbound at inconsistent speeds and unable to drive in a marked lane.

Witnesses observed the suspect vehicle pull off to the shoulder of County Road 45 and remained with the vehicle until police arrived on scene. An investigation was conducted at the location and officers found the male driver to be under the influence of drugs.

Benjamin Stephan GADD (age 38) of Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
· Possession of Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused had the vehicle he was driving impounded and his driver’s licence suspended.

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 7, 2019.

The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements. Let’s all do our part to ensure everyone travelling our roadways arrives at their destinations safely
