Durham Region – Fatal Single Motor Vehicle Collision

A 55-year-old Pickering male was killed after being run over by a commercial car transport in Pickering overnight.

On Sunday, June 9, 2019 at approximately 11:16 p.m., members of West Division were called to motor vehicle collision in which an individual was run over and dragged by a vehicle on Alliance Road in Pickering.

A large Peterbilt commercial car transport was stopped in a private lot, when the driver, a 55-year old Pickering male, exited the vehicle and was in the process of attempting repairs underneath the vehicle. Later, one of the owners of the truck company entered the vehicle and attempted to move it, unknowingly causing the driver underneath to be dragged. The male was severely injured and sustained fatal injuries as a result.

The 22-year old Markham male who attempted to move the vehicle remained on scene and rendered assistance.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
