Cobourg Prepares To Host Turkey Trot

In City Hall

A popular YMCA fundraiser will move from Hamilton Township to Cobourg, as Cobourg council voted at this week’s committee-of-the-whole session to permit the Northumberland Turkey Trot to take place Oct. 14 at the Cobourg Conservation Area.

This fundraiser for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign – which ensures that no child has to miss out on YMCA services and programming due to lack of ability to pay – has been held on Thanksgiving for some years now at the Boy Scout Camp on County Road 45 (formerly the Northumberland Ski Club).

The problem with this event was the subject of a presentation at Northumberland County council several months back, as councillors were told of the small parking lot that serves this site. Overflow parking on the busy highway now poses a very real risk to participants – some of them very young children, since this is a popular family-friendly activity.

Organizers are hoping the change of venue might work better for all concerned.
