Northumberland OPP – Four Drivers Charged Over the Weekend

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid four impaired driving charges this past weekend.

On Friday April 26, 2019 just before 3:00 pm officer responded to a traffic complaint involving a grey Honda sedan unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane on Highway 401 westbound near Brighton. The vehicle was stopped on the highway just before the Grafton exit. Upon speaking with the driver, an odour of an alcohol ic beverage was detected. A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) was administered resulting in a “fail”. Paul MARSHALL (age 59) of Belleville, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
He was released and is scheduled to appear in Cobourg court on June 5, 2019.

Saturday April 27, 2019 at approximately 1:45 am, a grey Mazda sedan that was observed travelling southbound on County Road 45 near County Road 29 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township was stopped after officers observed it to be swerving in its lane. Ernest William OOSTING (age 36) of Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
He was released and is scheduled to appear in Cobourg court on May 29, 2019.

On Sunday April 28, 2019 just before 4:00 am officers stopped a red Chevy sedan for a Highway Traffic Offence on County Road 30 near the 8th Line West just north Campbellford. The female driver was found to under the influence of alcohol and a road side test was conducted which resulted in a fail. She was arrested and transported back to the Campbellford detachment for further tests. As a result of the investigation Alyssa ELLIS (age 25) of Trent Hills, Ontario was charged with:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
She was released and is scheduled to appear in Cobourg court on May 28, 2019.

On Monday April 29, 2019 at approximately 1:15 am police received a traffic complaint of a Tractor Trailer that was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 just e ast of County Road 28 in Port Hope. The Commercial Motor Vehicle was described as all over the road almost hitting the guardrail travelling under the speed limit. Officers located the vehicle and as a result of the investigation Narinder Pal Si PANDHER (age 32) of Brampton, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
He was released and is scheduled to appear in Cobourg court on May 22, 2019.

All four accused drivers received an immediate driver’s licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others that may be travelling our roadways ar rive home safely.
