Northumberland OPP – Easter Long Weekend Traffic Campaign Results

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had a busy weekend responding to 177 calls for service along with traffic enforcement that yielded numerous charges in support of the OPP’s Provincial Easter Long Weekend Seat Belt Campaign that ran from April 19 – 22, 2019.
Officers from the Northumberland OPP Detachment, and throughout the province, were highly visible on our roadways during this campaign in an effort to ensure motorists had a safe l ong weekend.
There were numerous charges laid in Northumberland County during this long weekend initiative.
Speeding – 68
Distracted driving – 1
Stunt Driving-1
Seatbelts – 30
Moving violations – 3
Other Highway Traffic Act – 17
Insurance related charges- 7
Impaired and other Criminal Code driving Charges – 5
Off road vehicle offences – 4
Warn range suspensions – 1
Drug offences – 1
Other Provincial Statutes charges – 3
The Northumberland OPP wants to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. Over and above seat belt compliance, the OPP is counting on motorists to drive within posted speed limits, not allow themselves to be distracted while driving and to not drive if consuming alcohol or drugs. These efforts will ensure everyone travels to and from their destinations safely.
