Historic Home In Roseneath Destroyed By Fire

In News

A historic home in Roseneath was destroyed by fire on Monday, March 18, 2019.
Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department received the call at approximately 11:12 p.m. to the home located on County Road 24 just east of County Road 45.
Dan Brobbin spotted the flames shortly after arriving at his home which is directly across from the house that was on fire.
“I saw some orange light from the back of the building and headed back there. I heard some power surges and I called 9-1-1.”
Brobbin then awoke neighbours of the fire.
Within minutes the rear of the home was engulfed in flames.
The home was well known in Roseneath and was very historic.
“Everybody loved this house. It was unique to the area and has a lot of history.”
“It’s a unique house and when you lose something that is apart of the town, it’s pretty disappointing.”
The home had been for sale for approximately two years and was being renovated. Neighbours say a new steel roof had been added just recently.
It appears the fire may have started at the rear of the home and was well involved when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters from Alnwick/Haldimand, Hamilton Township and Trent Hills fought the flames from the outside as it was deemed to dangerous to go inside the home.
The fire got into the roof area at the rear of the home and spread to the front part of the steel roof and eventually engulfed the steeple area at the front.
No word on the cause of the fire, but the home is a total loss.
