In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 140 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

March 1

ยท Police responded to a report of a white Chevrolet sedan in a ditch on County Road 18 in Alnwick Haldimand Township just before 8:00 pm. The female driver was found to be uninjured and under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation Kimberly Jane BEAVER (age 57) of Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with:
– Operation while impaired โ€“ blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
She was held in custody until sober then released, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on April 10, 2019.

ยท A break and enter was reported at an abandoned house on Lakeshore Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. A window was smashed where entry into the residence was gained. The home is currently vacant and under renovations. There was no property reported missing from the residence. Investigation continuing*

March 2

ยท Just after 3:00 pm in the village of Hastings, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a while Subaru for a head light violation under the Highway Traffic Act. As a result of the investigation a 52-year-old female from Douro-Dummer Township was charged with several offences under the Highway Traffic Act as well as charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act for operating a vehicle without insurance. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver is scheduled to appear in court on April 10, 2019.

ยท Officers responded to a report of a family dispute between a mother and daughter in Hamilton Township just before 3:00 pm. A 27-year-old female was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

– Assault
– Mischief Under $5,000
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing on Sunday March 3, 2019.
The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

March 3

ยท Just before 6:00 pm officers responded to numerous complaints involving a black Mercedes sedan travelling eastbound on Highway 401 just entering Northumberland County. The vehicle was described as unable to maintain driving in a marked lane, cutting in and out of traffic, and crossing multiple lanes at inconsistent speeds. Due to the nature of such erratic driving behaviours, fellow motorists assisted the OPP in stopping the vehicle in the eastbound lane of Highway 401 near County Road 28 in Port Hope. The 33-year-old female driver from Richmond Hills, Ontario was found to be in medical distress and was transported to a local area hospital by paramedics for assessment and treatment. The vehicle was towed from the highway and no charges were laid.

ยท Police along with members of the Alnwick-Haldimand Township fire department responded to the Northumberland Forest on County Road 45 and Morris Road at approximately 6:40 pm. A 51-year-old male got lost while snowshoeing and called 911 for assistance. After a significant search on the Northumberland Forest Trail System by police, fire and civilian snowmobilers, the male walked out of the forest uninjured quite a distance from where he had entered. Police transported the male back to where his vehicle was parked several kilometres away.

Officers also investigated 19 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 8 motor vehicle collisions; 24 traffic related complaints and conducted 13 RIDE programs over the weekend.
