Peterborough Police – Fatal Fire Investigation

At approximately 2:09 on December 27th, 2018 a Peterborough Police officer on patrol observed smoke coming from 142 Park Street. Further investigation determined the structure was on fire. Emergency crews including Paramedics and the Peterborough Fire Department responded and the fire was extinguished while the residents were evacuated. The displaced residents were assisted with accommodations by the Peterborough City-County Disaster Trust Fund.
As a result of the fire one person is deceased. The body is being sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for a Post Mortem to confirm identity and cause of death. Peterborough Police are assisting the Office of the Fire Marshall and the Office of the Coroner. At this time it is not believed that the origin of the fire is suspicious or criminal in nature.
