Northumberland OPP – Weekend News Brief

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 141 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

November 30
· At approximately 7:30 pm officers attended a local restaurant in the town of Brighton after receiving a call from staff members regarding an intoxicated male refusing to leave the premises. Police arrested and charged a 41 year-old man from Brighton, Ontario under the Liquor Licence Act with being intoxicated in a public place. The male was held until sober then released.
· Officers attended an apartment building in the town of Colborne just before 9:00 pm after reports were received regarding a commotion taking place in one of the hallways of the building. A 22 year-old female and a 28 year-old male were arrested and charged under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a common area. Both parties were held until sober then released.
· Police were notified of a white Ford pick-up truck that was backed onto a property on Kellogg Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. The truck contained a quantity of construction debris that was being dumped into the field. Two men from Markham, Ontario were both charged under the Environmental Protection Act with Abandoning material that is likely to become litter and charged under the Trespass to Property Act with Engage in prohibited activity on premises.

December 1
· Police attended an address just after 11:00 pm in Alnwick-Haldimand Township for a report of a domestic dispute. As a result of the investigation a 51 year-old male from Alderville, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following offences:

– Care or Control While Impaired
– Care or Control Over 80 mgs.
– Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by an Officer in Charge (two counts)
– Uttering Threats to Damage Property

The accused was held in custody for a WASH court hearing on December 2, 2018. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

· A 78 year-old female called police to assist with locating her 82 year-old husband who had not yet returned home. Officers located the vehicle he was reportedly driving on County Road 30 near Campbellford, Ontario. Officers confirmed the male driver was not in medical distress but found him to be quite confused and lost. Family members were contacted and they attended to transport the male and his vehicle back to his residence in Cobourg.

December 2
· Officers attended a residence in Cramahe Township at approximately 12:30 am, after receiving a 911 call from a female stating she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend. A 26 year-old male from Cobourg, Ontario was arrested and charged with assault. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Court later this month.
· Police investigated a reported domestic incident that occurred in the Municipality of Brighton. A 26 year-old male from Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with mischief. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court on a date in January 2019.

Officers also investigated 19 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 12 motor vehicle collisions; 33 traffic related complaints and conducted 4 RIDE programs over the weekend.
