Northumberland OPP – Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 127 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

November 16

  •  A resident who resides on Stacey Road in the Municipality of Port Hope reported to police that jewellery worth over $5000 was missing from his wife’s jewellery box. The home owner hosted a party at the location the previous weekend. It was undetermined at the time of this report if unknown person(s) entered the residence or if the items were taken by person(s) who attended the party. Investigation continuing*
  • A motorist travelling on Danforth Road in Hamilton Township called police after almost hitting a horse that was running alongside of the road. Officers located the owner and the horse was returned back to its home without incident.
  • Police responded to a residence north of Campbellford at approximately 10:15 pm for a report of a domestic dispute in progress. As a result of the investigation a 31 year old male from the Municipality of Trent Hills was arrested and charged with two counts of assault. He was released from custody with conditions, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in December.  

    November 17

    •  A male who resides on Trent River Road north of Campbellford, Ontario reported to police his Echo CS-370 chainsaw with serial number C09913016379 was stolen from his unlocked shed sometime overnight.*
    • A 41 year old male from the Municipality of Brighton was charged under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a public place after he was observed to be unsteady while standing in the middle of the street near Terry Fox Drive. The male was transported back to his residence without incident.

     

    November 18

    •  A 52 year old male from Oshawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm after police investigated a domestic disturbance in Alnwick -Haldimand Township just before 8:00 am. The accused was released with an impe nding court date in December. Name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
    • A Brighton resident called police for assistance in locating his 19 year old son after he expressed having suicidal thoughts before leaving the home in his vehicle. Officers located the male, apprehended him without incident under the Mental Health Act. He was then transported to a local area hospital for further assessment and treatment.

     

    Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 12 accidental 9-1-1 calls/alarms, 33 motor vehicle collisions, 32 traffic related complaints and conducted 4 RIDE programs over the weekend.

    *Northumberland OPP is asking for the public’s assistance with these ongoing investigations and would ask that anyone with information on these crimes call their nearest OPP detachment.
