Quinte West OPP – Victim Assaulted During Break and Enter

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On September 6, 2018 at approximately 11:25 a.m. officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of the Break and Enter to a boat docked along the Trent River on Albert Street in the city of Quinte West.

The suspect(s) stole a small vessel, a nine foot Caribe Rigid inflatable with an 8HP Yamaha outboard attached, from the main vessel as well as various smaller items including alcohol.

On September 8, 2018 at approximately 4:47 a.m. officers responded to a Break and Enter and assault with a weapon to the same vessel.

Two suspects wearing balaclavas and described to be in their late teens to early twenties entered onto the boat which was occupied by its owner.

The owner who was sleeping on the boat at the time of the incident accosted the suspects. The suspects assaulted the owner and discharging a flare gun at him.

The victim was not seriously injured in the incident.

The Quinte West Detachment Crime Unit with the assistance of the Napanee Detachment Crime Unit executed two search warrants resulting in seizure of property related to the offence.

On September 21, 2018 the OPP arrested William CROSS, 22 years old of Quinte West and Shayne James DESORMO, 31 years old of Quinte West; both were held for a Bail Hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice located in the city of Belleville.

CROSS and DESORMO have both been charged with:

  • Break and Enter contrary to S. 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Robbery using a firearm contrary to S. 344(1)(a.1) of the CC
  • Pointing a Firearm contrary to S. 87 of the CC
  • Disguise with Intent contrary to S. 351(2) of the CC
  • Assault contrary to S. 266 of the CC
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to S. 88 of the CC

William CROSS was further charged with Failing to Comply with Undertaking contrary to S. 145(5.1) of the CC.
