Re: Lack Of Policing And Support Of Our Officers

It is well past the time to address the issues here in Cobourg regarding our Police force. It has only just come to light via social media just how many officers are off on leave for various reasons and they are voicing their frustrations on Facebook as they feel a total lack of support from their Chief and Board. How can this be? How can we as residents feel safe in our own town anymore with approximately HALF of our force not out on patrol? Do we not pay enough in taxes to support our safety from our Police?
Someone needs to ask WHY we have so many off- and if our Officers don’t feel supported by their ‘higher ups’, then how about a separate entity investigate? Ideally before something worse happens to either our officers or residents- we are worth it!
Another question directed here to our ‘Chief’- why has our Police Station become a “flop house”?? Homeless residing on the benches out front, sitting on the stairs all day…what is going on? I witnessed a couple just last week walking towards the station with their dogs, slowed, saw the woman living on the bench out front and stopped…said something to one another, then turned and walked back the way they came. I’m sure they weren’t the first. And I myself have been into the station to speak with someone while several sit in the ‘waiting room’ looking as though they have taken up residence in there.
Is this what we want in Cobourg- visitors/residents afraid to walk by, ore even into our Police Station? Our taxes for police services should be used for just that- not something that you think makes you look better in our town…and all these choreographed pics at lemonade stands around town with the officers- just stop.
Help our officers.
Look into what is the root cause here.
Do your job.
Or step down and allow someone to do it.
And to both Kim Rudd and David Piccini- help our small town to feel safe once again, please look into this immediately before we, as a whole, suffer a tragedy that could be avoided.
Thank you for your time.
