A senseless act of vandalism has shocked area residents in Cobourg.
Messages to Today’s Northumberland have narrowed down the time of the damage to sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning is when orange paint was thrown on the mural in Henley Arcade.
A number of panels on the mural appears to have been damaged, but to what extent is unknown.
It’s unknown if the Cobourg Police were aware of the act.
The origin of the paint is unknown, but there is a large bin at the back of a building off Covert Street that has a number of door which appear to be the same colour as the paint splattered over the mural.
A camera is located at the back of The Buttermilk Café, but it’s unknown if it captured the suspect/s or which way it faces.
The mural was unveiled in October 2015 and the work was commissioned by artist Heather Cooper.at a cost of $38,250.
People who regularly walk through the arcade from King Street to Covert Street were shocked by the vandalism on Sunday evening.
One woman said she frequently walks through the area and the damage wasn’t there a few days ago, so it was done very recently.
