Over 80mg/Careless Driving Arrest:

A 38-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including impaired driving, careless driving and driving without a licence following a Friday night motor vehicle collision.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on March 30, 2018 officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision in the area of High and Frank Streets. A vehicle driven by the accused had struck a parked vehicle on High Street. EMS and Fire also arrived on scene and the occupants of the parked vehicle were transported via EMS to a local hospital for medical treatment.

While speaking with the male driver of the vehicle officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath sample revealed the driver had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Christopher Gunsolus, 38, of Douglas Avenue, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol content. The accused was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving and driving a motor vehicle with no licence. The accused’s vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 19, 2018.

 

Drug Arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 27-year-old Harwood, Ontario man and seized illicit drugs including crack cocaine and crystal meth following an investigation.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on March 29, 2018 police attended a local motel in response to an unwanted intoxicated male. Officers arrived on scene and located the man still in the area. The male was initially arrested for public intoxication.

During the search incident to arrest officers located and seized illicit drugs on the accused including crack cocaine and crystal meth.

As a result of the investigation Andrew Allan Stephen, 27, of Corkery Road, Harwood, Ontario, is charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Crack cocaine)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Crystal meth)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Oxycodone)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (Canadian currency)

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on March 29, 2018.

 

Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose Arrest:

A Peterborough teen is facing weapons charges following a Monday evening incident.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on April 2, 2018 a group of teens were in a Park Street North park when they were approached by a male youth who brandished a BB gun, pointed it in their direction and threatened them. The male then left the area. Police were called and officers attended. The group of teens and the male know each other.

A short time later officers located the male youth at a Peterborough residence. Officers also located and seized the BB gun that had been hidden in the area. As a result of the investigation the 13-year-old male was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2018.Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

 

Assault with intent to resist arrest:

A Peterborough man has been arrested and charged after a mall security guard was assaulted Monday morning.

In December 2017 the accused was issued a notice barring him from entry to a George Street North mall. On the morning of April 2, 2018 mall security located the accused in the food court area. When security attempted to place the accused under arrest for trespassing one of the security staff was assaulted. Police were called and attended.

As a result of the investigation Joseph Philip Willis, 28, of Murray Street, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to resist arrest.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 26, 2018.
