Woman charged with care and control.

A 69 year old Durham Region woman is facing charges of impaired care and control after Port Hope Police were called to the McDonalds Restaurant on Rose Glen Road  due to a citizen’s complaint of a possible impaired driver. The incident occurred on the 11th of April shortly before midnight. Police commenced an investigated into the woman’s state of sobriety resulting in her arrest.  Doreen Copper is charged with care and control of a motor vehicle with excess blood alcohol.  She appears in court at the end of April.

 

Gun Amnesty Program is in effect until the end of April

The Port Hope Police Service Gun Amnesty program is ongoing until the end of April for any Port Hope resident who wishes to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition. This program is in co-operation with the O.P.P and Municipal Police Services. The Amnesty is a way to provide citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety. During the Amnesty, Police will not recommend weapons-related Criminal Code charges that might otherwise apply to people who are turning in these items.

*Please note there is no Amnesty offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime. No anonymous submissions will be accepted.

Interested firearm owners in the Port Hope Urban Ward are asked to call the Port Hope Police non-emergency number (905-885-8123 extension 3) to make arrangements to bring the firearm to the station at 55 Fox Road.  They are asked to leave the firearm in the vehicle and attend the station to meet the Police Officer.  The firearm will then be removed from the vehicle by a Port Hope Police Officer
