Belleville Police – Security Guard Stabbed at Quinte Health Care Emergency Department

In Police Blotter

On the 25th of March at 12:20pm, Belleville Police were dispatched to the Emergency Department at the Quinte Health Care – Belleville after receiving reports that a person had began to threaten staff with a knife and then stabbed a security guard.

When police arrived, the situation had calmed and the knife had been removed from the suspect.

Police spoke to numerous people and learned that a 42-year-old male from Belleville had attended the Emergency Department earlier for an unrelated health issue.

The male had been triaged by staff and was waiting on a hall-way bed in an area designated for non-emergent patients.

The male became agitated and began to cause a disturbance.

When approached by hospital staff, the suspect advised that he had a knife and threatened to stab staff.

The suspect then brandished a knife. Staff disengaged and began to create space.

Two on site security officers attended and physically engaged the male attempting to disarm him of the knife.

While doing so, one security guard and the suspect both sustained stab wounds to their leg.

Both parties were treated at the hospital for their injuries.

The suspect was arrested and charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm and death, assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and intimidation of a Health Care Professional.

Following his medical treatment, the suspect was transported to the Belleville Police Service where he was held in custody for a bail hearing.
