The sights, sounds and excitement of the fall fair returned to Port Hope this weekend, with the midway providing plenty of thrills and Saturday night ending with one of the fair’s loudest traditions — the demolition derby.
The Port Hope Fall Fair brought together families, fairgoers and competitors for a weekend celebrating the community and the arrival of fall.
For many visitors, the midway was a major attraction.
The bright lights, carnival rides and sounds of people enjoying themselves created the familiar atmosphere that has become part of the fall fair experience.
Children and adults lined up for rides, while others tried their luck at midway games before wandering through the fairgrounds to take in everything else the event had to offer.
But as the sun began to go down Saturday evening, the attention turned toward the demolition derby.
The sound of engines revving and metal crashing together drew a crowd as drivers climbed behind the wheels of vehicles prepared specifically for the competition.
One by one, the cars entered the derby area, with drivers looking to outlast their competitors as the vehicles took a beating.
The crashes brought cheers from the crowd as smoke, dust and twisted metal became the backdrop to one of the most anticipated events of the weekend.
