Network expansion aimed at improving coverage and capacity as wireless demand continues to grow

Residents and businesses in Port Hope are now benefiting from a new Bell wireless site that has been constructed and placed into service as part of the company’s ongoing effort to expand and strengthen wireless coverage across Canada.

Bell says the Port Hope site is one of the new wireless infrastructure projects being delivered as part of a broader 2026 expansion program targeting more than 224 communities across the country.

The company says the new site is designed to provide improved wireless coverage and additional network capacity in the community.

That could be particularly important during busy periods when demand on wireless networks increases.

Bell says residents, businesses and essential services — including public safety and emergency response — can benefit from more reliable connectivity and improved network performance.

Wireless use continues to increase as more Canadians rely on mobile devices for work, travel, communication and everyday services.

The demand can be particularly noticeable in rural communities and areas that experience seasonal increases in population and traffic.

Bell says its multi-year wireless investment program is intended to address those growing demands by both building new sites and upgrading existing infrastructure.

The company’s program includes three main areas:

• New wireless sites to improve coverage and address gaps.
• Upgrades to existing sites to increase capacity and network performance through 4G and 5G improvements.
• Network modernization intended to improve reliability and reduce congestion.

For Port Hope, Bell says the newly constructed site is now operational, providing additional wireless infrastructure to the community.

The company says improved connectivity can help residents stay connected while also supporting local businesses, mobile workers, visitors and industries that increasingly depend on wireless service.

Bell also points to the importance of reliable wireless networks for essential and public safety services, particularly during periods when networks are under heavy demand.

The company says it works with municipal and provincial partners on connectivity projects, particularly in areas that can be more difficult to serve, including through infrastructure partnerships and funding programs.

The Port Hope project is part of what Bell describes as a sustained, multi-year investment in wireless infrastructure across Canada, responding to the continuing growth in mobile usage.

While the expansion is intended to improve both coverage and capacity, Bell says the specific benefit to individual customers can vary depending on location, network conditions, device and other factors.

For Port Hope residents, however, the most visible part of the expansion is now complete — a new wireless site is constructed and in service.
