Video – Photo Gallery – Salmon Run Brings Anglers to Cobourg and Port Hope

August 19, 2026 Salmon Cobourg Port Hope

The annual salmon run has officially begun, with salmon now making their way into creeks and waterways throughout Cobourg and Port Hope.

The arrival of the fish marks the beginning of one of the most anticipated times of year for local anglers, as salmon push upstream from Lake Ontario in search of spawning grounds.

Over the coming weeks, anglers will line the banks of local waterways, with hundreds expected to take part in the seasonal fishery as the run continues.

The salmon run has become an annual fall tradition in the region, attracting both local fishermen and anglers from outside the area hoping to land one of the powerful fish.

The sight of large salmon moving through local creeks is also a reminder of the connection between Lake Ontario and the waterways that flow through Northumberland County.

The run will continue through the season, with the timing and numbers of salmon varying depending on water levels, temperatures and weather conditions.

For anglers, however, the message is clear — salmon season has arrived in Cobourg and Port Hope.
