Golden Plough Lodge Residents to Move Into New Home on August 23

After years of planning, construction and anticipation, residents of the Golden Plough Lodge will officially move into their new home on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Northumberland County confirmed the move on Thursday, saying the transition comes after months of planning and preparation, including a recent follow-up inspection by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

County officials said they continue to work closely with the Ministry as the final steps in the licensing process are completed ahead of resident occupancy.

“The move has been carefully planned to support a safe and seamless transition for residents,” the County said in a statement.

Staff, families, volunteers and a professional healthcare relocation company, Health Care Relocations, will work together throughout the day to ensure residents experience a comfortable and well-coordinated move into the new long-term care home.

In a letter sent to residents and their families, the County said it remains in daily communication with the Ministry and is on track for the scheduled move date.

Preparation for the relocation will begin next week. On August 12, packing supplies and boxes will be made available to residents. Families are being encouraged to sort through personal belongings, take home items that are no longer needed, and pack any fragile or valuable possessions that they would prefer to bring back after the move.

Additional information, including packing instructions, move-day details and what residents and families can expect during the transition, will be distributed in the coming days.

Before residents move into the new facility, the community will have an opportunity to see the building during a public open house. County officials say the grand opening is planned for Thursday, August 20, with further details expected to be released next week.

The County acknowledged that moving from the current Golden Plough Lodge is both an exciting and emotional milestone for residents, families and staff.

“Our priority is to ensure that it is a safe, comfortable and well-organized transition for everyone,” the letter to families states.

The new Golden Plough Lodge has been under construction for several years and will replace the County’s existing long-term care home, providing residents with modern accommodations and updated amenities designed to enhance quality of life. The August 23 move marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of Northumberland County’s most important community facilities.
