July 14, 2026 Smokey Sunset

The word on everyone’s lips throughout Tuesday, July 14, 2026, was simple: hot.

With temperatures climbing above 30°C, anyone spending time outdoors felt the intense heat. Beaches, parks and even shaded areas offered little relief as the summer sun beat down across the region.

As evening approached, the setting sun cast a deep orange glow across the sky and through the clock tower of Victoria Hall in Cobourg. A dense layer of smoke, most noticeable beginning just north of Highway 401, blanketed the landscape as it drifted south from the Northern Ontario wildfires. The smoky haze created a striking sunset while serving as a stark reminder of the fires burning hundreds of kilometres away.
