Video – Memorial Named After Murdered Cobourg Police Officer Vandalized

July 13, 2026 Chris Garrett Memorial Vandalized

The Chris Garrett Memorial was vandalized sometime in the last several days.

The park was named in honour of fallen Cobourg Police Chris Garrett who was murdered in the line of duty in the early hours of May 15, 2004.  Before he succumbed to his injury, Garrett fired his service weapon striking his assailant.  The killer was arrested and later convicted of first degree murder.  Evidence showed the murderer had a plan to murder numerous police officers and civilians stating “chaos is coming.”

Garrett was posthumously awarded the Star of Courage by the Governor General of Canada.

The memorial was erected a year later in the park named after Garrett on Birchwood Trail.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cobourg Police.
