Habitat in Action Week Invites Community to Build, Learn and Connect

A week of workshops, volunteer opportunities, community conversations, and hands-on impact takes place July 13–18

Habitat for Humanity Northumberland is inviting the community to experience its mission in a new way during Habitat in Action Week, taking place July 13–18, 2026.

The week-long initiative will bring together businesses, volunteers, families, and community members through a series of engaging events designed to showcase the many ways Habitat is building stronger communities across Northumberland County.

From hands-on DIY workshops and unique corporate volunteer experiences
to exclusive after-hours ReStore events, Habitat in Action Week offers something for everyone.

A highlight of the week is Building Stronger Communities – A Community Conversation, taking place Tuesday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland ReStore in Cobourg.

This free evening event will explore how safe, affordable housing extends far beyond building new homes.

Habitat leaders will share how the organization is expanding its impact through critical home repairs and will gain insight into Habitat’s evolving role in addressing housing needs across Northumberland County and learn how community partnerships continue to make this work possible. Registration for the event is on Habitat’s website: www.habitatnorthumberland.ca.

“Many people know Habitat for the homes we build, but our work today reaches far beyond new construction,” said Cathy Borowec, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland. “Building Stronger Communities is an opportunity to share the stories behind our programs, celebrate the partnerships that make them possible, and invite our community to be part of creating lasting change.”

Throughout Habitat in Action Week, local businesses will also trade the boardroom for a day of purpose through corporate volunteer experiences. Teams will work alongside Habitat staff and volunteers supporting ReStore operations, building products for sale, constructing materials for critical home repairs, and participating in projects that directly benefit families throughout the region.

The week will also feature family-friendly birdhouse building workshops, a women’s DIY pallet plant stand workshop, and an exclusive after-hours ReStore experience with local furniture refinishing expert Flipping Beautiful, celebrating creativity, sustainability, and the circular economy.

The success of Habitat in Action Week is made possible through the generous support of local businesses that believe in building stronger communities. Habitat for Humanity Northumberland gratefully acknowledges Stadtke Plumbing & Heating, Part-Time CFO Services, Lakefront Utilities, Canada Pallet, Spoolon, and Linmac for their sponsorship of this inaugural event. Their commitment helps create meaningful opportunities for
community members to volunteer, learn new skills, and support affordable housing and critical home repairs across Northumberland County.
