New Canadians Centre Brings Multicultural Festival to Port Hope

The New Canadians Centre invites the community to celebrate Canadian Multiculturalism Day at “Around the World in Northumberland”, a free family-friendly event in Port Hope on June 25. This event is part of the fifth annual Canadian Multicultural Festival series.
“The Multicultural Festival shows what our community is capable of – people coming out to dance, eat together, share stories, and connect with neighbours they might never have met otherwise,” says Jeeniraj (JJ) Thevasagayam, Executive Director of the New Canadians Centre.
The celebration comes as NCC marks 10 years of welcoming Government-Assisted Refugees to the region. In honour of this milestone, Dr. Neera Jeyabalan and Dr. Greg Bishop are matching donations up to $10,000 until June 30.

This free family-friendly event features live multicultural music and dance performances, cultural displays, and the opportunity to taste refreshments and snacks inspired by cultures and traditions from around the world.
The New Canadians Centre (NCC) is a non-profit organization that has been providing services in Peterborough since 1979. In 2008, we opened a second office location in Cobourg to better serve the Northumberland community. Since Fall 2025, we have been offering in-person settlement services in the City of Kawartha Lakes twice a month. We empower people who are new to Canada, so they can be recognized as equal and valued members of Canadian society, and we provide leadership to cultivate their meaningful economic, social, and cultural inclusion in our community.
