Update – Terry Fox School Sends Note to Parents Regarding “Perceived Threat”

Terry Fox Public School in Cobourg sent a note to parents on Thursday, February 27, 2026 regarding what could have been perceived as a threat to school safety.

The letter (below) follows up on a Cobourg Police press release regarding the incident.

Dear families,

We want to send this note this evening to share that we are aware of concerns circulating among students and through social media regarding comments made by one of our students that could be perceived as a threat to school safety.

Please know that all matters concerning student safety are taken very seriously.

We have investigated the matter thoroughly, including identifying the source of the comments. Through this process, we were able to clarify the context in which the statement was made and understand how it was subsequently misunderstood. All students involved, along with their parents, have been contacted and spoken with directly.

As part of our investigation and follow-up of this matter, we have also contacted local police services who have determined that there is no concern for student or staff safety.
We appreciate your continued support and understanding that all concerns are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.

As always, the safety and well-being of students is our highest priority. Should you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.
Sincerely,
Stephen Koshurba
Principal
