New Campbellford Memorial Hospital will connect more people to quality care close to home

As part of 2025 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario, the Ontario government is beginning the process for the construction of a new Campbellford Memorial Hospital. The hospital will connect more people and families in Trent Hills and across Northumberland, Peterborough and Hastings Counties to more convenient, high-quality care close to home.

“Our government’s nearly $60 billion plan to build and upgrade more than 50 hospitals across Ontario is delivering on our commitment to provide the people of Ontario with high-quality health care close to home,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Today’s announcement is a major step toward delivering a new, state-of-the-art Campbellford Memorial Hospital that will be transformational for the people of Trent Hills and across the region.”

The government’s investment will support early planning for the redevelopment of Campbellford Memorial Hospital on a new site. Creating a larger, state-of-the-art facility will allow the hospital to expand programs and services and ensure it can continue to meet the needs of the growing community for decades to come.

“Our government is protecting Ontario’s health care system and ensuring that more people in Trent Hills and the surrounding communities can connect to convenient care, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “By investing to build a brand-new Campbellford Memorial Hospital, we are making it faster and easier for more people and their families to access world-class care in their community for generations to come.”

Once opened, the new hospital would include:

Expanded access to core programs and services, including a modernized emergency department and new inpatient medical wing

Increased inpatient capacity to meet the community’s future needs and allow more people to connect to care sooner

Enhanced infection prevention and control measures to ensure the health and safety of all patients

A new health care campus with a range of community support services to match the needs of Northumberland’s growing and aging population.

“In the face of continued economic uncertainty, our government remains unwavering in our commitment to making the necessary investments that help connect more people to the care they need,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance. “That’s why our investment towards a new Campbellford Memorial Hospital is pivotal, as it will ensure that individuals and families in Trent Hills and Northumberland, Peterborough and Hastings Counties are connected to a stronger and more resilient health care system they can rely on.”

As a next step, the Ministry of Health is working with Campbellford Memorial Hospital to complete early planning for this project, including determining bed numbers and square footage. Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is expanding and modernizing Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.

This will not just bring a new hospital to our community, but a ‘Campus of Care’ that will care for our community and the surrounding region for decades to come.”

Campbellford Memorial Hospital is a 38-bed health care facility located in Trent Hills that provides a range of health care services and community programs to approximately 40,000 residents across Northumberland, Peterborough and Hastings Counties.

The hospital provides a comprehensive array of acute care services including a special care unit, endoscopy surgical suite, diagnostic imaging department, laboratory, outpatient clinics, 24/7 emergency department and numerous community programs such as mental health, the Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network Clinic and supportive housing.

Over the next 10 years, Ontario is investing nearly $60 billion in health infrastructure. This is part of the government’s plan to get shovels in the ground on over 50 major hospital projects across the province that will deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds to enhance access to quality care and build a connected, people-first health care system.

The Ontario government invested more than $228 million in 2024–25 to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 129 hospitals and 58 community health care facilities across the province, a 10 per cent increase from the previous year.

In 2024–25, Campbellford Memorial Hospital received $202,283 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, including $111,795 through the Exceptional Circumstance Project Grant, used toward upgrading the hospital’s fire alarm system to enhance safety, improve operational efficiency and mitigate fire-related risks.
