The Municipality of Port Hope has opened the tender process to hire a contractor for Phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction Project. This final phase will cover the area between Pine Street and Cavan Street, with construction set to begin in spring 2025 and major work expected to be finished by November 2025. Additionally, the final layer of asphalt for Phase 2, completed in 2024, will also be applied in 2025. This work will include milling and paving the section of Walton Street from Queen Street to Mill Street.
As part of this tender, a pre-construction public information meeting will take place after the tender is awarded. This meeting will provide details on construction staging, traffic detours, and work schedules. The date and details of this meeting will be widely shared closer to the event.
Phase 3 of the project will include major upgrades to underground infrastructure, such as replacing water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. However, unlike Phase 2, the impact on downtown businesses is expected to be much less disruptive. This phase will present new challenges, such as ensuring access to a church and a funeral home. To address these, the Municipality will focus on enhanced planning and coordination to maintain accessibility, minimize disruptions, and support businesses and organizations in continuing their operations during construction.
Similar to Phase 2, dedicated staff will be assigned to ensure business continuity and support for residents throughout the planning and construction phases.
Further updates will be provided once the contract is awarded to the successful contractor. The Municipality remains committed to keeping the community informed and appreciates your patience as we complete these essential infrastructure upgrades to our downtown core.
