Video – Cobourg’s Christmas Tree Comes to Town
Preparations for this Friday’s launch of Christmas Magic in Cobourg are well underway.
On Monday, November 18, 2024, Cobourg Police escorted a large 10 metre tall Blue Spruce into town.
The tree was donated by Rick and Barb Johns from Skye Valley Drive who donated it because there were other trees around it in their yard and it wasn’t getting as much sunlight as the other trees.
So the couple were approached about donating the tree and thought it was a great idea.
Workers from Ironwood Tree and Landscape along with Northumberland Crane and Tree Services Inc donated their services to cut down and deliver the tree to Rotary Harbourfront Park early Friday morning.
Waiting for them were members of the Cobourg Parks Department who installed the tree at the south end of the park.
Manager of Culture, Events and Tourism, Jackie Chapman-Davis said the tradition continues every year with a tree being donated to Christmas Magic.
“It’s a lot of work, but the community partners come together.”
Chapman-Davis said they are putting the tree in a park full of trees, but there is no “Christmas style” tree, so they bring one in.
“This week, we’ll hit the ground running and you’ll see everything come out for Christmas Magic, the lights, the characters.”
There will be over 150,000 Christmas lights in Victoria Park and Rotary Harbourfront Park that will be lit from November 22 to January 5 from dusk until 10 p.m.
There are lots of fun things happening on Friday including the Christmas Market.
In the Spring, the tree will get mulched up and used in parks and different areas of the town.
The fun beings this Friday, November 22, 2024.
6 p.m. Christmas Music begins to play followed by a welcome before Victoria Hall is lit up.
6:46 p.m. The “lighted” walk begins down Second Street to Rotary Harbourfront Park.
7:p.m. Vinyl Groovz will perform at the Christmas Magic Light Up
