Update – HKPR District Health Unit Investigating Dog Bite That Seriously Injures Child

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has provided an update regarding a child bit by a dog.

Cobourg Police station on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 officers responded to an ambulance assist call after a dog bit a child.

Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society and Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge, District Health Unit were notified of the incident.  The child was transported to Toronto for treatment of their injuries.

HKPR District Health Unit opened and investigation and on Thursday, October 17, 2024, Manager of Communication Services for the Office of the Medical Officer of Health, Ashely Ann Beaulac stated, “as a follow up we can confirm that we received a report from the Cobourg Police on October 8th regarding a serious dog bit involving a child. The dog was vaccinated against rabies at the time of the incident and the owners are cooperating with all public health requirements.”
