Astrophotographer of the Universe Takes Remarkable Photo of the Tsuchinshan Comet
A Grafton man had the time, patience and professionalism to take a remarkable photo of the Tsuchinshan Comet over Lake Ontario.
Astrophotographer, Lynn Hilborn took the photo on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at approximately 7:30 p.m. along the lakeshore at the water treatment plant.
Hillborn was using a Canon 6D with Canon 24-105 lens at 40mm f4 1600 ISO, with an exposure of five seconds.
Taking the photo Hillborn said it was hard to pick out with the naked eye over the city light pollution.
“The tail is getting smaller every night and the full moon does not help. You have to know where to look and use the camera test shots to find it.”
Spotting the comet peaked on October 15, but it was cloudy that evening so Hillborn tried again the following night.
Hillborn enjoys photographing stars, galaxies and the dark dust of the cosmos giving birth to new stars.
Long exposures with the camera captures details the eye can’t see.
